Masks essential as Council services re-open

Logan City Council will tomorrow (Saturday, July 3) begin re-opening facilities and restoring all services curtailed by this week’s lockdown.

All Queensland Health restrictions and guidelines, including the wearing of masks and social distancing, will be strictly enforced at all Council venues.

The Queensland Government has announced that the three-day lockdown will end at 6.00pm today (Friday, July 2) for most local government areas including the City of Logan.

Brisbane and Moreton Bay remain in lockdown for another 24 hours.

Queensland Health advises that everyone should carry a mask whenever they leave home for the next two weeks.

A face mask must be worn at all times when you are outside your home, unless:

  • you are alone in your car or with the members of your household
  • you are eating or drinking
  • you are at your usual workplace and can physically distance from others (except if you work in a hospitality venue or are a passenger transport operator)
  • you are alone outdoors or with members of your household
  • you are exercising
  • you have a medical reason
  • it is unsafe.

Children under 12 and people with some medical conditions or disabilities do not need wear a mask. If in doubt, wear a face mask.

Council facilities and venues will start to re-open in line with the following details:

Customer service centres

Council’s customer service centres at Beenleigh and Jimboomba will re-open on Monday, July 5 (the Logan Central customer service centre remained open during lockdown). Normal operating hours will apply.

Customer numbers may be limited to ensure social distancing. Masks will be required for entry.

Customers are reminded that many Council services can be completed by telephone on 07 3412 3412 or online including:

  • Report it – order wheelie bins, report a barking dog, parking issues or parks maintenance.
  • Apply for it – apply for a water meter, building approval or residential driveway.
  • Pay it – pay your rates, development applications, licences, fines.

Normal operating hours will apply from tomorrow (Saturday, July 3) at the Animal Management Centre at 213 Queens Road, Kingston.

Animal care

Council encourages residents to use online services at logan.qld.gov.au/online-services to pay their pet registration or call 07 3412 3412.

Visitors must wear masks and will be required to register contact details when entering or exiting the facility.

Libraries, Logan Art Gallery and Mayes Cottage

Normal operating hours will apply from tomorrow (Saturday, July 3). Libraries open at 9am. Logan Art Gallery opens at 10am. Mayes Cottage opens at 10.30am.

All visitors must adhere to Queensland Health guidelines on masks and social distancing.

Visit the Library website to borrow e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines or to renew items. 

Gyms and aquatic centres

Normal operating hours will apply from tomorrow (Saturday, July 3).

Waste facilities

Normal operating hours will apply from tomorrow (Saturday, July 3). Cashless payment is preferred.

Logan Recycling Market

The Logan Recycling Market will re-open tomorrow (Saturday, July 3) from 10am. All attendees must use the Check In Qld app.

Immunisation Clinics

A Council immunisation clinic will operate at Hyperdome Library, Loganholme, from 9.00am to 11.00am tomorrow (Saturday, July 3). Masks will be mandatory.

The published immunisation clinics schedule (see Council’s website) will resume on Monday, except for the clinic at Browns Plains Early Years Centre on Thursday, July 8 at noon, which is cancelled.

Community Vaccination Hub

Queensland Health will operate a Community Vaccination Hub at the Logan Entertainment Centre (LEC), Wembley Road, Logan Central, from Tuesday (July 6) for a period of six months.

The centre will operate from Tuesday to Saturday – 9.00am to 4.30pm.

Council is not managing this clinic.

Parks

Council operated and managed Parks are open. Water play areas will be turned on. Users must adhere to Queensland Health guidelines relating to masks and social distancing.

KRANK school holiday program and Live Well Logan

These programs will resume but changes may be made to reduce capacity of some sessions. For more information please contact the activity provider directly.  Details can be found by visiting the KRANK and Live Well Logan webpages.

Water service disruptions

Logan Water will return to normal working arrangements from Monday, July 5. Residents and business affected by temporary water service disruptions for essential works will be notified in advance. Community venues

Normal operating hours will apply from tomorrow for:

  • Beenleigh Events Centre
  • Beenleigh Town Square
  • Berrinba Wetlands hire-able space
  • Underwood Park Hall
  • Logan West Community Centre
  • Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre
  • Mt Warren Sports Centre

Please note basketball courts at Logan Metro Sports are undergoing maintenance through to the middle of next week. Logan North Aquatic 50m pool is closed for refurbishment until later this year.

Masks

Face masks must be carried at all times when leaving home, unless you have a lawful reason not to. They should be worn in indoor spaces, such as shopping centres and supermarkets, hospitals and aged care facilities, if permitted to visit, indoor workplaces (where it is safe to wear a mask and you can’t physically distance) and public transport, taxis and rideshare and waiting places or queues for this transport, airports and travelling on planes.

A number of other changes to pandemic restrictions come into effect from 6.00pm on Tuesday, June 29.

Only two visitors (excluding volunteers and workers) will be permitted in a residence.

People can exercise away from home with their household group and/or one other person not from their household.

COVID-19 vaccines

The Australian Government is in charge of selecting, buying and regulating the COVID-19 vaccines.

The Queensland Government is in charge of delivering the vaccine across our state.

Logan City Council does not currently have a role in delivering the COVID-19 vaccine.
